Project:
The project visualises the inspiring world of nature’s senses and is connected to the extraordinary human sense called ‘Synesthesia’, in which the real information of one sense is accompanied by a perception in another sense (multi sensory experiences).
In order to create ‘using senses’ is an essential ingredient; it functions as a toolkit which helps exploring the creative process. To honour natures design and to celebrate the senses I decided to combine them together. I believe there is not enough attention to the sensory aspects of fashion, so if we can learn from nature’s biology, why not learning from nature’s sensory mechanisms? The ‘sensorial possibilities’ should be more explored. Could sensorial fashion add experience – reflecting the spirit of the times, could it add (sensorial) awareness, and could it possibly add another dimension to fashion?
Result:
The concept connects to the social development called ‘dematerialisation’. Through overconsuming we have enough to choose in the material world, but without stimulating our emotional, sensorial needs this does not mean anything. This why the project is visualised as a sensory forecasting for A/W 2012.
Four subconcepts are presented, each includes two animal senses that are translated into two social developments, and a product-mood-guideline (collage). Two subconcepts are extended with a fabric collection, a colour forecast, and design translations.
